Air New Zealand

Probably the most easy and even cheapest way to reach our place in Golden Bay is by plane. Air New Zealand maintains regular connections between Nelson and all other main cities in the country. We can pick you up at Nelson Airport and bring you back for your return flight at the end of your Hiking Special. Bus transfer between Nelson Airport and Golden Bay takes 1.45 hours. Golden Bay Air

Guests travelling from the North Island and from our capital Wellington can book a direct flight to Golden Bay from Wellington Domestic Airport. The flight takes 50 minutes and is a wonderful scenic experience with the magical landscapes of the Marlborough Sounds and the Abel Tasman National Park slowly passing under you.

We will pick you up (free of charge) from Takaka Airport and transfer you in 15 minutes to our lodge in Pohara.

Bus connections

Abel Tasman Coachlines and Golden Bay Coachlines provide timetabled services from Nelson and Motueka to Takaka and Pohara in Golden Bay. You find their schedule on www.abeltasmantravel.co.nz and www.goldenbaycoachlines.co.nz

Car transport

If you are on a scenic tour through New Zealand and are travelling by rental car, you can use the following time calculator as a guide to organize your car travel to our Lodge:

• Picton-Golden Bay: 4 hours
• Nelson-Golden Bay: 1.45 hours
• Christchurch-Golden Bay:7.30 hours
• Kaikoura-Golden Bay: 5.30 hours
• Westport-Golden Bay: 5.30 hours

If you prefer to pick up a rental car at Nelson Airport, we like to mention that all main rental companies have an office desk inside the terminal building.

Free booking service

If you aren’t sure about the best way to reach us in Golden Bay, just let us know. We maintain good relations with our local providers and can organize the booking for you without reservation costs. We can even offer reduced rates with Golden Bay Airlines and Thrifty Car Rentals. Just let us know if we can be of any help.

Free shuttle service

We offer a free shuttle service between our Lodge in Pohara and the Takaka Bus Terminal or Takaka Airport (20 min). If you like we can also organize a private minibus transfer for you between Nelson Airport and Pohara. (1.45 hours, extra charge).

Track transport

All transfers between our Lodge and the different walking tracks are all included in your Hiking Special price.

For the transport to the start of your Abel Tasman day walk, we rely on the services of our local bus company. All other track transports are organized with our own Mercedes minivan with all modern facilities on board (radio/tv/dvd/airco/kitchenette).
